Here we are again, with the biggest event of the year for the community. This is an event for the new faces to get introduced to testing and bug verification and a celebration for the old ones like me that marks the end of three years of the community! Whoa! Three years!
This event took place at 5th & 6th October of this year at Independent University of Bangladesh (IUB). Before talking about the event, I would like to thank the people at IUB for kindly hosting us, thank you people at IUB! Now let me relive the memory and keep it here so that I can remember this awesome event again and again.
First Day
So the first day started with breakfast! Ain’t that awesome?!
Once we are done with breakfast, Hossain Al Ikram vai, our community lead officially started Firefox Test Sprint, Dhaka with his welcome speech. He introduced Mozilla to everyone, talked about Mozilla mission, Mozilla Manifesto and how Mozilla is helping to make internet better for everyone for more than a decade. He talked about the history of Mozilla and how and why it all started.
After that it was all about bugs.
First day sessions were:
Introduction to QA – Rezaul Huque Nayeem
Firefox new profile creation – Maruf Rahman
Firefox channels – Rahimul Islam Rifat
Following test cases & Feedback in etherpad – Sayed Ibn Masud (Me)
Demonstration of Manual Testing – Md. Almas Hossain
In my session, I talked about what test cases are and how to follow them to test different features. Then I introduced etherpad and showed them how to use it to give feedback on their findings based on the test cases.
Then it was lunch break. Yummy foods!
After lunch break, they were asked to go through rest of the test cases and to find bugs. A few bugs were found by participants and they were rewarded with swags like stickers and wrist bands.
In the last couple of hours of the first day, Ikram bhai introduced Bugzilla and described bug life cycle. Then I showed how to verify bugs and showed two bugs from Bugzilla that I had verified previously to show them practically.
Second day:
Just like the first day, we started with breakfast. Then I reviewed a few points from previous day about bug verification. Some of our mentors (Md. Majedul Islam Rifat, Rahimul Islam Rifat, Maruf Rahman ,Md. Almas Hossain , Sajedul Islam, Saddam Hossain, Tanvir Rahman) and I demonstrated few bugs again.
Then I divided the participants in few groups of 5-7 people and assigned a mentor for each group. I asked the participants to try and reproduce a few bugs and encouraged them to discuss about it among themselves. They were also encouraged to ask mentors for any help. Till lunch break this continued.
After the lunch break was over it was time for the most anticipating part for our old contributors, it was contributor recognition time!
Contributors were recognized for their contribution in Mozilla and in the community with awesome swags like t-shirt, hoodies, cap, water-bottle, stickers and many more. Thanks a lot to Mozilla for providing us with these awesome gifts. ❤
Participants were also recognized for their effort they put in finding bugs, learning to verify bugs and manual testing.
That’s the end. Ikram vai gave one final good bye speech and we took a group photo with everyone smiling and happy for an awesome event and for awesome gifts.
For us old contributors and organizers, being there and being able to pull off another great event and seeing all those participants and potential new contributors and for everything and yeah for a lot of other things we are happy and content.
Thanks everyone for participating and thanks everyone for their awesome support. See you again.
